Downtown office center gets a complete makeover

A large three-building business center in Walnut Creek, plus a parking structure, was scheduled for a renovation to bring it visually to the forefront of a thriving downtown corridor. In addition to other major improvements, Urban Painting was hired to transform the original, dated coatings into a dynamic new design.
Projects of this scale require a company and team that are able to staff up and manage workflow in many areas at once, all with an eye towards safety for the crew, the public, and the property at all times.
What We Did
A complete, multi-scope facade restoration for a busy professional building, including:
Accessed the work with up to eight swing stages at once and a crew of 25.
Performed all work while under the Covid protocol.
Kept the project productive, even during challenging supply chain and material delivery issues.
Applied coating to almost 220,000 sf of wall surface
Project Details
To meet project scheduling demands, it was agreed to start work on the highrise building of YC1 and the parking structure at the same time. Each area had its own foreman and team to minimize any downtime and communication delays and keep the crews fully productive. The parking structure scope had a mix of: fully priming and top coating previously uncoated precast panels; coating of CMU block walls; and preparation and coating of metal stair towers and rails with an industrial metal coating.
Surfaces were both sprayed and rolled as surface needs and environmental conditions dictated.
Special silicone coatings were selected because they were compatible with the existing coatings but, more importantly, to provide the vibrant accent colors that were part of the new design.
In addition to wall coatings, all-metal handrails were coated with two coats of industrial enamel, and one of the pedestrian walkways was coated with Gaco urethane traffic coating.
